Flood Insurance

Floods are one of the most common natural disasters across the county. Just a few inches of water in your house can cause tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage. Worse still is that standard home insurance does not cover flood damage. Most people understand that there are high risk areas where flood insurance may be required. But many floods happen in so called “low risk” areas by flash flooding.

Understanding Flood Insurance

Most flood insurance in the US is provided through FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program. Rates and coverage are standardized and based on the location of your home, its elevation and other factors. Homeowners can purchase this coverage for the structure and your personal property. If you rent your home or apartment, you can purchase coverage for your personal property. It is important to not wait until there is a storm on the horizon to purchase this coverage. It takes 30 days to go into effect once it has been purchased.

Some home insurance providers have begun offering some flood damage coverage as an additional option on their policies. Check with your ANI Texas agent to determine if you are covered. Contact us today!
